MARIE BAILEY FIELDS BY PQ

Todays inpsiration is this wonderful heritage layout by DSP member PQ – I just LOVE the elegant design she has used which allows lots of room for journalling and really still shows off the gorgeous photo perfectly

I do intend to scraplift this layout very soon!!

Here are PQs notes on this layout which can be viewed and commented on here

Journaling: In 1921 at the age of 16, Marie dropped out
of high school to get married. She moved
from her grandfather’s home in Boiling
Springs to a small rental house at 814
Assembly Street in Columbia, S.C. In 1928,
after more than a day of torturous labor,
Marie gave birth to her only child. Marie
was an excellent seamstress and she earned
extra money for her household with her
sewing skills. In 1941, after the Japanese
attack on Pearl Harbor, Marie went to work
at Fort Jackson in the uniform and equipment
repair shop to help ease the war labor
problem that was created when the American
men went to Europe to fight in WWII. Within
a short period of time Marie was promoted to
a supervisory position at Fort Jackson. In 1944
The Columbia Record wrote a half page article
on Marie and her superior skills. Working
outside of the home was a very liberating
experience for Marie and shortly after starting
the job at Fort Jackson, Marie borrowed
money against her dower rights &
purchased a ten bedroom antebellum
home at 1830 Henderson Street in
Columbia, South Carolina for $2250.00.
